Mr Jagannathan was presented with the Distinguished Alumnus Award by the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, in July 1996 and the Citation by Mr R Natarajan, Director, IIT, reads as follows :-
“Shri Jagannathan has played a pivotal role in bringing simple and useful technologies within the reach of Indian families. He graduated from this Institute in 1970 with a Bachelor’s degree with distinction in Mechanical Engineering. He was awarded the President’ Prize and the Banco Foundation Prize for the best academic record in Mechanical Engineering. His keen interest in techno-managerial and manufacturing systems led him to study operations research and business management, in which he obtained the degree of Master of Science of Cornell University in 1972 After his academic success abroad, he chose to return to India, and in 1973 joined the Tamilnadu Printers & Traders Pvt. Ltd as the General Manager, and in less than a year turned the Company around into a profitable venture. It is now one of the leading producers of maps and travel guides. Gifted with the right combination of knowledge and leadership, Mr Jagannathan, only 26 then, was appointed as the Managing Director of the TTK Prestige Limited, one of the TTK Group of companies, in 1975. Under him, the TTK Group of Companies has become one of the leading manufacturers of pressure cookers and contraceptives. Shri Jagannathan represents a generation of Indian business leaders who are making India globally competitive”.
Brief as a successful Entrepreneur
Currently, as CHAIRMAN of the TTK GROUP, Mr Jagannathan is directing the activities of the GROUP to create a niche in the market place for consumer soft and consumer durables. The TTK GROUP had many successful joint ventures and collaborations with some of the leading FMCG Organisations abroad. It has now completely indiginised the manufacture of these FMCG products for successful marketing in India. These ventures and collaborations bear testimony to Mr Jagannathan’s commitment to go global and deliver products & services to consumers at affordable price. One of Mr Jagannathan’s ambitions was to establish an Indian brand in the forefront of the U.S. market. Towards that, Manttra Inc, a wholly owned subsidiary of TTK Prestige Limited, was set up in 1996 to cater to the Indian cookware market. The effort has been successful to a large extent.
KesIt has been the vision of Mr Jagannathan for a long time to acquire renowned Brands overseas. This ultimately found its resonance in April 2016 when he acquired Horwood Homewares Holdings Ltd, a major player in the U.K. in the Kitchen category segment known for its brands such as STELLER, JUDGE, KAUFMANN etc through the subsidiary TTK British Holdings Ltd. He is very active in Social and Educational fields. The TTK Group always believed that it should stretch itself beyond the frontiers of business and reach out to people for economic as well as social emancipation. Against this backdrop, Institutions such as TTK Hospital, T.T. Ranganathan Clinical Research Foundation, Addiction Research Centre, Madras Voluntary Blood Bank, Rotary-TTK Blood Bank, T.T. Narasimhan-Swami Dayananda College of Arts & Science were established by the TTK Corporate House.
In collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, as recently as in 2015, he helped set up the TTK Center for Rehabilitation Research & Device Development (R2D2) that is actively engaged in making Assistive Devices to aid movement of those affected with Locomotor disorders. Mr Jagannathan is the Chief Patron of these Institutions.
These institutions are very unique in the realm of service to society, as they help people in every stratum, cutting across social barriers, realize the life’s ambition of leading a quality life for a better future ahead.
Being a keen golfer himself, Mr Jagannathan served the Indian Golf Union, the apex body of golf in India, as its Council Member from the Southern Region, and later as its President for one full term.
Mr Jagannathan is married to Latha, who is a Doctor and serves as the Medical Director of the Rotary-ttk Blood Bank, a non-profit charitable Institution in Bangalore dedicated to the cause of volountary Blood donation and propagation of Aids awareness throughout the country. Mr Jagannathans’ have three sons, all graduated from the Cornell University.
